Mucous Cyst Excision
Say goodbye to that stubborn, fluid-filled lump at the base of your fingernail. Ask a fellowship-trained hand surgeon at EvergreenHealth to relieve pain or nail problems by removing your mucous cyst (a type of ganglion cyst) quickly and safely.
Mucous Cyst Excision
Before your procedure, you'll receive anesthesia to prevent pain. Your care team will clean and sanitize your hand and may apply a tourniquet to limit bleeding.
A surgeon will make a small incision over the top knuckle on your finger. Then, your doctor will remove the cyst and any bone spurs to reduce the chance of a cyst reforming. If the cyst involves your cuticle, your surgeon may make a skin flap to recreate the cuticle. Finally, the surgeon closes the incision.
After Mucous Cyst Surgery
You'll wear a bandage and splint to protect your finger as it heals. Cyst excision is an outpatient procedure, so you'll be able to return home the same day.
Talk with your surgeon about EvergreenHealth's hand therapy program, which can reduce stiffness after surgery and help you resume everyday activities.
