Frequently Asked Questions
Do I cancel if I am menstruating?
No, it is not necessary to cancel an appointment due to menstruation. We can still perform internal pelvic floor treatment techniques even if you are menstruating. Internal treatments are only performed with your consent at each visit, so you don't have to have the treatment performed if you prefer not to. However, there are many aspects of therapy treatment that can still be performed, such as education or exercise, which continues your treatment and maintains consistency.
Do I need to shave before my visit?
No. Shaving is not necessary. Grooming is a personal preference and is not necessary or requested for the work we perform.
What if I have to bring my baby/child with me?
We understand childcare, especially with infants, can be challenging. We make every effort to schedule your therapy visits at the time that is most convenient to you and your loved ones. We welcome any young person into your treatment session that you wish, and request mindfulness as to the supervision required so you have the least amount of disruption to your treatment time. We want these therapy sessions to be time for you to focus on your care.
Can I bring my partner, friend, or family member with me to my visit?
You are welcome to bring any person into the treatment with you. We ask that it be someone you are comfortable with to be able to share openly with your therapist during your sessions. We also ask this person to be mindful and respectful that this treatment session is your time. If you would like another person in the room, but do not have someone you feel comfortable bringing, we are happy to discuss chaperone options for your treatment sessions.
What if I am under 18 years old?
A parent/guardian needs to be present at the evaluation visit and sign consent forms. After the evaluation visit, you can choose if you would like the parent in the treatment room or not. Please note, we do not treat pediatric patients at this clinic and require all patients be 16 years or older.
What should I wear?
We want you to be comfortable during your session. Sometimes we request the ability to see or touch your skin (abdomen/back area), so having clothing that can easily be removed or adjusted is helpful. We can provide a hospital gown if needed. Some treatment sessions may be more exercise focused and performed on the treatment table, on the floor or even in the gym. Shoe choice is something to consider, if we are working on exercise-based therapy you will want to be wearing gym/tennis shoes that are appropriate for the activities we are performing.
